Which Akai samplers does S-Convert support?
S-Convert builds native disks and programs for the Akai S900, S950, S1000, S1100, S2000/S2800 and S3000/S3200/XL, and writes AKP program + WAV folders for the S5000/S6000 (limited today, fuller support planned). CD-ROM output is a work in progress. A separate converter also exports SFZ, DecentSampler, SoundFont 2, MPC keygroup (XPM), Korg, Kurzweil, Roland S-7x0, E-mu, Ensoniq and more.
How do I get the files onto my sampler?
Three routes: floppy images (.img, plus HFE) for Gotek drives; SCSI drive images (.hda) for ZuluSCSI, BlueSCSI and PiSCSI/RaSCSI setups (copy them to the card or Pi your usual way — a direct network push from the app is in beta); or ZBridge, our USB-C bridge that loads samples directly into sampler RAM. The sampler sees a real disk either way.
What file formats can I import?
WAV, AIFF, FLAC, CAF, MP3, M4A and OGG audio; ACID WAV and Apple Loops; SoundFont 2 and DLS; SFZ and DecentSampler presets; Logic EXS24; GigaSampler; MPC programs; Korg and Kurzweil formats; and disk images from Akai S1000/S3000 and S5000/S6000, Roland S-7x0, Ensoniq EPS/ASR and E-mu EOS samplers. Several of these are tested and proven; the rest are still being confirmed in beta — if a file won't import, email it over and we'll fix it.
Can I chop breaks and export the slices?
Yes — the built-in slicer chops audio by transient, region, grid or by hand with zero-crossing snap, lets you audition every slice, and sends the chops straight into an Akai program build. Chop a break on the Mac, play it from pads or keys on the sampler minutes later.
Does it support MPCs?
Yes — new in the beta. S-Convert writes native SND + PGM kits for the MPC60/MPC60-II, MPC3000 and MPC2000/2000XL, along with the media they load from (Gotek floppy images for the 60 and 2000XL, a ZuluSCSI Zip image for the 3000); WAV + PGM folders for the MPC1000/MPC2500/MPC500; and keygroup XPM + WAV for modern MPC 2 machines. Fair warning: this is brand new and hasn't been verified on real MPC hardware yet — if you own one, we'd love your load reports.
Does it run on Intel Macs?
No — S-Convert requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
Is it a subscription?
No. One-time purchase — $75 during the beta, going to $99 soon — including all updates during the current cycle. The license activates on 2 Macs and you can move machines yourself in your license portal.
Do I pay VAT or sales tax on top?
S-Convert is a US-based product and prices on this site are shown before tax. If your country or state charges VAT, GST or sales tax on software, it's calculated from your location and added on top at checkout — you'll see the exact amount before you pay. Checkout is handled by Polar, our merchant of record, so they collect and remit that tax and your receipt comes from them. If you're a business with a valid VAT/GST number, enter it at checkout and the tax is removed where reverse charge applies.
Does the app need an internet connection?
Only occasionally. Activation needs to be online once, then the app revalidates your license roughly every 90 days. Your samples never leave your machine — the library index is stored locally.
I bought on Payhip — do I have to pay again?
No. Every Payhip customer gets a free upgrade to a new license key — see the upgrade page. Old keys keep working during the transition.
Are you affiliated with Akai, Gotek, ZuluSCSI or any hardware maker?
No. S-Convert is an independent, one-person product with no affiliation to or endorsement from Akai, Gotek, ZuluSCSI, BlueSCSI, PiSCSI or any other company named on this site. Their names appear only to describe what S-Convert is compatible with. (Our ZBridge firmware is an open-source overlay on the ZuluSCSI-firmware project, used under its GPL license.)
What is ZBridge?
ZBridge is our USB-C bridge for loading samples directly into Akai sampler RAM — no disks at all, ReCycle-style — plus live MIDI control over SCSI. It runs our own open-source (GPLv3) firmware branch built on the ZuluSCSI-firmware project, published on GitHub. It's in beta, hardware-proven on the S3200XL.
Can I try it before buying?
There's no trial build right now — the videos and guides show exactly what the app does and how it works before you buy. If you're unsure whether it fits your setup, ask us or the Facebook group first; we're happy to tell you straight whether your sampler and workflow are covered.
