S-Convert

Compatibility

Supported sampler formats

See what you can open, build and convert for each sampler or software format. Each row separates verified software behavior, current limits and physical hardware testing. Support for one file profile does not mean every feature of that sampler is covered.

Matrix reviewed September 18, 2026. Use the current installer on the download page. Native project editing requires a supported source project where noted; sample-transfer output carries audio without a complete native project.

LOADED ON REAL HARDWARE

3

Recorded models: S950, S1100 and S3200XL. A related model or shared file format does not inherit a hardware pass.

MPC — beta

7

MPC targets that write native files and media. None loaded on a real MPC yet.

Other samplers — beta, untested

35

Sampler families from other makers. Software-verified only. Owner test reports decide what gets promoted.

How to read this page

Software-verified means the file S-Convert writes reopens in S-Convert and in at least one independent tool (ConvertWithMoss, akaiutil, HxC, a DAW). It does not mean a thirty-year-old sampler, drive emulator or firmware revision accepts it. Loaded on real hardware is a separate, stricter gate: someone put the output on the actual machine and it loaded and played. Only the rows that say so have passed it.

Work from backup media. Do not overwrite the only copy of a disk, card or sampler library with beta output.

Akai S-series

Core

What S-Convert was built for. Brendan owns S-series hardware and tests on it. Three models have recorded loads of S-Convert output; the rest of the family shares those writers but has no separate pass yet. The hardware column says exactly which is which.

S1100 SCSI evidence does not establish S1000 or floppy/Gotek acceptance.
AkaiS1100S1000-family media with S1100 identitySoftware-verifiedS1000-compatible Program, keygroup, sample, tuning and loop conversion with the S1100 OS stamp so effects sends are live on load.S1100-specific effects beyond the send, and a complete model-specific native-media set, are not covered.Loaded on real hardwareSCSI images written by S-Convert load on a real S1100; envelopes, tuning, key ranges, filter and keygroup counts read back identically on the LCD. Floppy/Gotek output for the S1100 has not been hardware-tested.
AkaiS3000 / S3200 / XL / CD3000HD floppy, SCSI and CD imagesSoftware-verifiedPrograms, samples, keygroups, overlapping velocity zones, loops and the retained S3000-family controls. Some model-specific effects, global state and less-common media variants remain outside the tested subset. CD-ROM output is a work in progress.Loaded on real hardwareSCSI images load on a real S3200XL with all envelope stages reading back on the LCD; ZBridge live control is confirmed audibly on the same unit. Floppy/Gotek output and other models in the family have no separate pass.
AkaiS2000 / S2800HD floppy and SCSI imagesSoftware-verifiedSame writer as the S3000 family: Programs, samples, keygroups, velocity zones and loops.Model-specific effects and global state are outside the tested subset. Not tested on real hardwareShares the S3000 writer, but no S2000 or S2800 hardware load is recorded.
AkaiS5000 / S6000 / Z4 / Z8AKP Program plus WAV folderPartialMapped Programs and sample folders retain key/velocity maps, tuning, level, pan, crop and loops. Automatic S5000/S6000 grouping preserves amplitude and filter envelopes through saved-project Build. Z4/Z8 retains PCM16/24 at 44.1/48/96 kHz; S5000/S6000 uses PCM16 at 44.1/48 kHz.MULTI, effects, modulation and machine-global state are not fully represented. Model-specific native provenance and physical acceptance remain unverified. Not tested on real hardwareNo physical load on an S5000, S6000, Z4 or Z8 is recorded. Native envelope curves and hardware playback remain unverified.

Other samplers

Beta — untested on hardware

Written from format documentation, public files and independent tools such as ConvertWithMoss, akaiutil and HxC. Output reopens in software. None of these formats have been loaded on the real machine. Treat every file as untested until a hardware report says otherwise, and never overwrite the only copy of a disk with it.

A hardware report is what moves a row from “not tested” to “loaded on real hardware”. Include the exact sampler and OS version, the transfer device or drive emulator, whether the media mounted, and whether samples, key maps, velocity layers, tuning and loops played as expected. Failures are as useful as successes.
